Family Friendly Art Exhibitions

Updated: Sep 6, 2021

Since school days I have very much enjoyed Art, In fact i excelled in it. I liked the freedom of expression it gave me without being direct or confrontational. The idea of art being an emotional outlet helped me through my teenage years. I am always happiest when painting.

Now, having a four and two year old art work is becoming a regular activity within our household.

We recently entered Matilda's Artwork into The Lurner Prize which will displayed in an exhibition later this year. This leads me nicely onto my main intent for this article which is based on Family friendly art exhibitions.

Fall down the rabbit hole with this timeless classic take on Alice in wonderland. We all know the story now it's time to introduce the next generation into a magical journey of imagination and mind.

Attention mini Wizards and Witches! The new exhibition at the Natural History Museum is one that inspires us to take a step into animal conservation, protection and preservation of these fascinating animals and beasts!

First Sundays is a monthly exhibition of storytelling which takes place at The Royal Naval College, which recently featured the magnificent exhibition Gaia; Luke Jerram’s awe-inspiring art installation Gaia. This monumental internally-lit sculpture, measuring seven metres in diameter, was created using 120dpi NASA imagery and is an exact scale replica of our planet. Sadly was only featured in the painted hall for just over 1 month! Not long enough if you ask me!! 1st July was the last day to view.

The Tate have always got fantastic displays on throughout the year for family and children to view, the problem is being able to get your hands on tickets fast enough! they sell out super quick especially as they are free! One spectacular exhibition that I did not manage to get tickets for, is Yayoi Kusama: Infinity mirror rooms this exhibition will be ongoing until 2022! so keep checking back. Other exhibitions included Bitten Peach, Fairy Round and uniqlo Tate Play.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I believe this statement to be true. Glasses raised to Jean Dubuffet who rallied against conventional ideas of beauty.

Probably the one your littles will be most excited for, The Chocolate Factory!! with many different themed rooms based on sweets and chocolate your little one is bound to have a rush of excitement just by looking at these installations.

Rosie and Jim eat your heart out! Quirky and fun this little barge showcases many different puppets from over the years. If your child likes puppets this day out will surely tap into their imaginations. Plenty of history here and a taste of the old days can definitely be felt.

There you have it! A few wonderful beautiful exhibitions for you and your family to view on our rainy summer days.
